Preparing your pet for surgery

At the Vet

PRE-SURGERY PREPARATION/
BEFORE SURGERY

Booking

  • Make sure there's no health complication before a surgery, advisable to book a
    pre-surgery check up

  • Book an appointment with us for the Surgery.

Understanding

  • Don't hesitate to contact us on the importance and risk of the scheduled surgery.

  • Have them groomed or bathed ahead of time.

  • The animal have to undergo fasting before Surgery (further details below)

ON THE DAY OF SURGERY

  • Dogs and Cats have to fast (No FOOD & DRINK) for 12 hours before surgery. Rabbits have to fast for 2 hours but no more than 4 hours.​​

  • When you come to pick them up make sure the carrier/cage is big and firm enough for them to lie down comfortably and to avoid breathing restriction

  • Preparing pad in the carrier/cage is ideal as there might have uncontrollable excretion
     

  • Buy an E-Collar fit for it's size.

POST SURGERY/ AFTER SURGERY

Listen to Doctor's Post-Surgery Instruction Closely
 

  • You may feed your cat/ dog soft food and water 1/3 the normal amount, 5 hours AFTER they wake up for 2 days.

  • Rabbits should be fed immediately after waking up (Cannot fast for more than 4 hours)

     

  • Separate them from other pets for the first 24 hours.

  • E-collar must be on at all times until it's time for stitches removal.

  • Restrict or limit their activities.

  • Keep the surgical wound clean at all times.

  • Talk to your vet about any concerns.

  • Stitches can be removed after 7-10 days
